Texas was granted statehood on December 29, 1845, making it the 28th state in the Union. Austin is the capital, but Houston is the largest city in the Lone. The name of this region, Trinity, is a kind of triple meaning, referring to the Trinity River, to the trinity of large cities (Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington) that make up the area, and as a kind of homage to the region's high number of religious voters. Trinity would be the richest of the new Texas states.
It would also contain a relatively large African-American population. However, Democrats would have little chance of competing for their 12 electoral votes. Although Barack Obama won Dallas County on November 4th, it was literally the only county to win Trinity and, overall, the territory would be one or two dots redder than the current state of Texas as a whole. However, Democrats could have a chance to win one of their two Senate seats if they nominate a business-friendly moderate.
They currently hold about one-third of the Senate seats in states where they are at roughly this degree of partisan disadvantage (think Arkansas or South Dakota).
